A Word About Safety…

Road bicycles are not allowed at our velodrome! Track riding requires the use of track-specific bicycles which have geometry and crank arm lengths that help to minimize accidents due to the “high-siding” of crank arms on our steep banking. These bicycles also have fixed gears and have no brakes, which facilitates safe riding in close quarters at high speeds.

Boulder Indoor Cycling has a limited number of bicycles (both track and mountain bikes) for member use free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis for both the velodrome track and the mountain biking circuits. These bicycles are provided by several of our sponsors and are a significant benefit to members – we encourage you to both enjoy their use and to support these fine vendors whenever possible!

Members that own their own track bicycles will be permitted to use them once approved by BIC’s staff. While the ultimate determination of your bike”s suitability is made by our staff, the following guidelines can be used as a general rule of thumb for critical requirements:

  • Maximum bottom bracket drop: 50mm (or minimum bottom bracket height: 285mm)
  • Maximum crank arm length: 170mm
  • Gearing: fixed gears required
  • Brakes: no brakes allowed

NOTE: Be sure to arrive early to ensure availability of track bikes and to get them set up in time for your session!

Bicycle Repairs

In the future, we plan to have a professionally-staffed repair shop to address major repairs as well as a “Do-It-Yourself” area stocked with a basic set of tools where members can make minor repairs to their bikes. Stay tuned for updates!
